will the dist. of an L-134 fit in an f-134 and vica/versa? The tab on my l-134 dist. is broken off.

Just be sure that you have the distributor fully seated into the block, and snugged down before cranking it over. Snapping the tip of the dist. shaft is a common complaint, and it is caused by having slack in the distributor hold-down. If you need to have it loose to time it, you should just barely be able to turn he distributor, no looser. Tighten it down oce you get it timed.

if snapping the tip is a common problem, how come it is so hard to find the shaft? The only place I found a new one would cost 150 for a new dist. So I bought one off a guy with an L-134 sitting in his field.

Although if I cannot get this motor to run (hasn't as of today) I have a 2.8L/th350/d20 combo ready to go in. R)

Just a friendly suggestion - get out your tape and check your rear driveshaft length on that combo before you do anything permanent. You might also consider a D18 instead of a D20, since the offset will make your rear driveshaft angle better.

I dunno, I asked the same thing when I sheared mine off before the rebuild.

I bought one of the repro distributors from Turner's 4WD and it worked just fine with points in it. However, when I went to upgrade to a Pertronix trigger assembly I couldn't find one that fit into the asian housing.

I ended up scoring an NOS Autolite distributor on eBay, and retrofitted the Pertronix into that. Spendy, but I won't have to worry about it for a loooong time. <crossing fingers>

If I cannot keep the original motor working, I plan on a resto mod type rebuild to make the jeep more enjoyable.

    d30 front (cj5)
    d44 rear (scout)
2.8L (engine ran good, ought to work fine in a 2400lbs rig)
th350 ( no more rigging clutch linkages)
d20 (to work with d44 have both of those now)
probably a scout II steering box conversion.
