PICS ARE UP 2ND PAGE Ok, got it home ok, thanks for the advice used a trailer.
I think I got an ok deal. not sure what jeep it is. thought it was A cj3 but I think its a MB. It has the tube
between the frame up at the front end. it is 4X4 but it does not have hubs to hand lock in on front end. Not sure what to do with that. single piece windsheild, no vents, wipers were attached to top. I cannot find a serial number anywhere. frame has rust on it and the tag sare not on the firewall and dash. It has the willys engine flat engine I think its the L head.any help on this would be good, I will try to post pics this weekend.

Is and MB an ok jeep? or would I have been better off passing it up. let me know To late now.

    Anyway here is the story.

Lats time it ran was 2 years ago, guy let it sit under barn. he says it runs..

I need help getting it ready, this is my first jeep i have never done some of this

Should i pull the plugs and make sure it turns over ok?

    1. where is the oil drain plug, what kind of oil do i put in it.(Detergent or NON Detertgent)
    5QTS

    2. should I clean the carb before starting?

3.How do I check and fill the Transfer case\Tranny? (and drain to refill) what type of fluid

    4. front and rear diff. How much lube and what kind- do you just fill up to the fill plug\should I change it or just fill it.

5.what else should I do, im very eager to get this baby started. If it wont start right away should you spray starting fluid in carb, also there has been no has in tank will it prime itself?

all help would be gratly appr. if you dont mind a phone call with questions i would like to speak top someone who has alot of knowlwdge with these jeeps. email you number if you dont mind a call fmf421@aol.com

    thanks

Oil drain plug, on the oil pan, driver side IIRC.
Just regular Valvoline 10w-30 will work just fine.
    Yes clean the carb
There may or may not be a drain plug on the diff. Usually I pull the front cover off, inspect, replace with a new gasket, amounts I'm not sure on.
Tranny and transfer case, drain plugs on the bottom within the skid place, just look for them.
Not sure on amounts for them either, but regular (NOT hypoid) gear oil 90w will work.
Last I'd check brakes before starting it. Clean the carb like I said, prime the fuel bulb, maybe run it off of a regular gas can instead of the tank (who knows what could be in there)
Good luck, someone may chime in and change what I said.

Once you know what you have, the absolute best investment you can make is a factory service manual, or FSM. They are inexpensive (~35 bux) and will save you mucho aggravation and $$ down the road. ;)

Need pics to help you ID the jeep. Does it have a glove box? You can tell the engine is free by just grabbing the fac and tuning it, as long as the belt is the right tension is should let you at least rotate the motor a little bit.

I would have a fire extinguisher on hand when you go to start it.Especially if you have to fuss with the carb. Post some pics when you get time and even though your excited on getting it running right away( I would be too !) take your time and enjoy the process. Once you I.D. the model you will want to pick up a copy of the factory service manual. :)

Looks like a WWII Jeep, a Ford GPW or a Willys MB. Is the front crossmember under the grill round (tube = MB) or square (stamped = GPW)?

Potentially valuable when restored - maybe too valuable to do anything but restore. Serious mods are really out of the question.

Also this Jeep could be worth a lot as parts, if you don't want to restore it.

Check out the www.G503.com MB/GPW forums.

Looks to be an mb or gpw. if you look on the front frame rail inside you should find a plate with the serial number. Is the front crossmember round or is it an upside down U

Marvel Mystery Oil or ATF in the plug holes would help, if it's frozen. Let it soak for a few days. After you put oil in, you won't hurt it to try and turn it with the crank bolt.

Nice find, I guess you'll be hanging out a the G503(military jargon for jeep) website don't forget us here at the ecj5 forum. You need to restore it. They're (MB)getting few and far between nowadays.
