Finishing up a complete wiring harness on my 53 CJ3A. Still all original including 6V etc. My dad tells me that I will have to jump the regulator to get some juice flowing in the generator windings before it will start charging again.

Although I can find some reference in my manual and online I have been unable to find a procedure of any kind. My dad mentioned that it might cause damage if I start or run it without doing this first.

If anyone could help it would be appreciated. I am only a couple days away from firing it back up.

You never have to jump the regulator... Some systems you flash the field but thats done on the generator itself. A regulator only controls the amount of voltage/current that it is designed and adjusted for. If you put power to the wrong term on regulator you will smoke it. what type 6v gen reg do you have?
