My jeep caught fire this weekend. I was lucky... by the time i stopped the Jeep jumped out and got the hood open, it had gone out. I couldnt find the problem and i was only half a mile from home so i idled back home without incident. Anyway i took a closer look today and found the source of the problem: the carb is leaking like crazy... right onto the exhaust!
My own fault... last weekend i took it through some serious mud bogs and its been running funny ever since (sputtering a little). Anyway.. i should have taken a closer look after the mud run. i pulled the air cleaner off today to find that some mud had gotten through into the carb
Needless to say, i'm going to need a carb rebuild and an oil change. Is there anything else i should do? I don't want to start tearing the motor apart... i just need to keep it alive until i can get my swap done this winter.

onto the carb question... can anyone I.D. my carb? Any ideas where i can get a full rebuild kit for it? i noticed its now missing a little push rod that used to be there before with a spring at the end of it (red circle in the pic). The tag on the carb has "FordCo" and "C3AF C A 2JE" Stamped into it.

If any of you can point me in the right direction, i would really appreciate it :)

    Andy,
I have had a similar problem with my Carter WO carb in the past.
If the carb gets really dirt and gummy the float sticks open and causes fuel to leak out of the top seal of the bowl.
Mine would do it worse on really bumpy terrain or after idleing for long periods of time.
Tear her down and clean her out real good, sorry I am no help with ID on your carb but I bet it is the float.
Glad you got the fire out  I once had a positive winch cable rub through the casing and arc out on the body starting a small fire, really gets ya movin don't it!

 where do you mount your fire putter outer?
That carb looks like the one W3SRL was telling me to do for my F-Head if I swap it into my 47, a Ford Falcon carb.

Extinguisher is always on the floor next to the passenger seat. Fire went out quick before i could even grab it.

That carb is a little similar, but definitely different :( ... i'm guessing its probably not stock since no one (including me) seems to know what it is. Made by ford though according to the tag :?
