    Rear driveshaft, that is.....

I just got Herm's Saginaw kit and unfortunately, I think the simplest way to make it work is to move the engine/trans towards the back.
I have a 4.3/SM420/D18. As she sits now, the Jeep would have a 19" rear driveshaft which is longer than the one I had with the 225 V6 IIRC.

Is anyone willing to tell me how short their shaft is? I'll show you mine if you show me yours!

    Thanks!

Thanks for the info, guys! It's a PITA to move the whole engine/tranny just so I can steer but I think I should be able to get the clearance I need. I want to drive my Jeep this summer. I'll keep you posted.

19" I have 3.8/SM465/D18. My driveline is 16 5/16" You must have your engine mounted farther forward. Isn't the adapter longer on a SM420?:?

The adapter is longer. Do you have the 1" Novak adapter? The AA SM420 adapter is probably 4-5" long. I positioned the engine as high and as far forward as I thought was resonably possible. Now it appears it's way too high and way to far forward to work with the steering system I want to install....

Your engine must be waaaaayyy back there. Got any pics showing the relationship between the top rear of the engine and the firewall?

Not that it matters because of different applications, but my rear shaft is 23.5" long. Thats after I lengthened the wheelbase 10". Yes, it was a whopping 13" at one point!

Why do you need to move the engine back to install the steering box? If it were me(which its not so this is just opinion) I'd be more willing to move the front axle forward. Of course I'd allready be moving the rearend back anyways.

Yes. I have the Novak 1" adapter. I originally mounted the engine so the transfer case crossmember was in the same place as it came from the factory. This was before I got the Novak adapter. I used too have the adapter for the T-90. The only thing I was worried about was the clearance between the steering shaft and the exhaust on the drivers side. Here is some pictures.

The engine needs to be moved because both the power steering pump and the D/S engine mount are going to interfere with the steering box. I am using Herm's Ford box mounting kit. The placement of the front axle has no effect on how this box will mount (behind the front crossmember). I'd post a picture but the camera batteries are dead. Maybe tomorrow...
