I have a friend down the road with an old Meyer HT, its rusted away at the section that mounts to the tub, only one side glass, but everything else is there including the doors.

My question is this, is it worth it to ask what he wants for it and can I correct the lower rust damage easily? Im not interested in mounting the doors as one hinge is located somewhere on the windshield and I dont have the bracket.

I was just thinking of mounting it and using my half doors and a cab cover for keeping rain/snow out.

I drive by it every day coming home from work and its killin me wondering if I could fix it.

Tim would know more than me, but you know the old saying "With a welder & a torch, we can fab or fix anything".

Your avatar shows a roll bar. First make sure it would fit over that. Can't hurt to ask how much, and yeah sheet metal can be repaired. Is it worth it? That's entirely up to you to decide. Depends on how much time and money you want to put in to it, and what result you want. I have hardtops so in my case it's worth it to me.

I am getting ready to get my hardtop ready for winter. Mine has quit abit of rust along the bottom also. I am going to use some angle iron to re-enforce it in that area. Is the top your looking at worth it? Could be a nice project. If you fix it and then decide not to use it you can always sell it. I would say look into it and see how cheap you can get it for. Rusted and incomplete I don't see how the guy could want very much for it. He may just like to see it hauled off.

I have wonderd about the bar, since I changed the tub to fiberglass I think the bar sits a bit higher. unfortunately I wouldnt know for sure about that until I would have tried to put it on and I dont think "borrowing" it is something I can do. he told me once that a guy was gonna give him 100 bucks for it but the guy never came back. so I am unsure what to offer him. I dont know if selling it would go, I looked on ebay and the ones on there are way much better condition. I prob wouldnt get much if 100 out of it. such a pondering thing.

I do believe I am going to check with him this weekend and see what he might want to do. I would like to have something to pop on for the winter months. I wouldnt be driving it, just the YJ for that, but it would help preserve the dash and seats from the weather.

It would probably cost a C-note in wolmanized plywood, bracing, hardware & plexiglass to have a homemade wooden top - I'd go there w/$75.00 and start at $50.00, but you know best the rules of engagement in your locale.

ps: I just saw a classified w/a similar hardtop reportedly in "good" condition for $200.00.
