Handbrake range of adjustment

I have my new-to-me M416 home now. I've used a half can of Kroil just to get the handbrake adjuster to loosen up. I have it where it can turn 1/2 rotation then it stops.

I can set the brake and release without any issues.

Can someone tell me how much rotation the adjuster should have? Does it keep screwing in/out for awhile?

I assume that it raises and lowers a plunger which adjusts the brake tension.

and to add: The G responded with some good insight as to how this thing works. Looks like I'm on the right track and just need patience and more Kroil.
