Today I finally crawled under to get all the grease points. I'm pretty sure I got them all, according the service manual, except the spring shackles. My 58 has bolts through the front and rear of each shackle. Does this mean a PO changed something or am I missing something? I know my T3C trailer has a C shackle with grease fittings and I was expecting something similar on the CJ.

Not sure what year they changed from the C shackle to the newer, parallel bar style. I just had a '55 frame here that had c shackles. Not sure what the '56 chassis had on it. I'll have to look at my pictures.

I don't know that any factory shackles, after the C design went away, had grease fittings,...with the possible exception of the M38A1.

ed.: '56 had C's on it also. Also had the factory front shackle reversal which makes me think it was an early '56. Wonder if there is any correlation between the change to front shackles and the move away from C's.

You can fit the C shackles if you want greasable type. Omix, but ok AFAIK. Omix also has a greasable 2-bar style shackle, as I recall. The factory 2-bar style will have silent block bushings, the type that has two steel sleeves with cast rubber between. Might have been replaced with silent blocks when Jeep changed the shackle to the front of the spring. '58 is not so early ... I recall that only the first year or two got the rear shackle springs, like the M38A1.

In reading in the service manual late last night, I see mention of "Without lubrication fittings: No Lubrication" and under the Springs and Shocks "All vehicles produced before early 1957 were equipped with U-shackles and threaded core bushing". So now I have my answer.
