What has everyone come up with for putting rocker guards on a flattie? I like the idea of some angle bolted to the tub with some 3/4 round welded on to make it a rounded corner, but with the step and the bend in the tub I dont see how its gonna be possible to make one like that and it look decent when its done. Plus I really dont have much clearence to give up underneath it to run just a standard 2x4 slider. So whos got some good idears other than putting on a lift kit.

My plan is what you described. I was thinking 4X4X1/4 angle 2in diameter .125 wall tube for a nerf bar and 1.5in dia. .250 wall tube for the bottom corner to allow the vehical to slide along rocks. Will it weigh a ton, heck yeh!

But you cant do that on the flat fender side, due to the way the tub bends in and where the step is. Thats why I'm trying to come up with a new idea....

lose the step. thats the plan on the 3b. was gonna use broke 1/4 sheet to go down the side of tub. then run a tube with end cap drilled and tapped for the fender from the fender into the sheet bent and slotted to go down the lenght. if you wanted the original look, you could just rebuild the step on the sheeting out of something beefy. make sense?

My plan is similar to Tumbleweed’s – I also want to put a 1” sq or round step on to the outside. I have ‘tipped’ into rocks to often to just have the bottom corner protected. I also want to try to tie it into a new ‘belly pan’ to protect the exhaust and cases some how – still figurin on it too.

I used to have 1.5" .120 wall tube come off the frame, run under the rocker and go back to the frame. They worked real well for a long time. I am looking for new ideas though. I don't want to change the look or appearance of the step, that has to stay. I really like what TumbleWeed has done but that won't work well for me. I have an M38 and I want to keep the shovel/ax mounts in tact. So lets see some more ideas. What else is out there? Tumbleweed, how does that protect the step? Is there a plate underneath it? Did you mount your cage to that?

I made mine out of some old aluminum rocker steps from a suburban. May not be the strongest thing ever but i hardly ever hit them with my lift and they look good and cover up rust holes :)

Heres what I got so far...

    Started with this..

Got these now, still need to make the backing plates to go inside the tub to bolt the rocker too. But other than that just need to throw some paint on 'em and they'll be ready to slam on some rocks

That looks great. Are you gonna cut the holes back out on the side. I don't know what they're called, I just call em the water drain holes.:)

No hadnt planned on it. I figured there are enough other "drain" holes in the flooroboard the water can go out those instead :)

Heres the driver side finished product..

Theres the 2 bolts you can see, 3 thruogh the bottom plate of the cage, and one through the fender holding it on. Hopefully that will be enough...
