Hi, been lurking for years this is my first post.

I dropped my oil pan to replace a leaking gasket. I have searched the forums and have read that the oil pump now needs to be primed? I have a service manual published by Kaiser Jeep (1967) as well as a Chilton manual and neither makes mention of priming the oil pump when changing the oil pan gasket.

Its an F-134, the oil pump itself has not been tampered with at all. Any thoughts? Thank you.

if you haven't pulled the pump you should be fine, just put the pan back & add oil.

You can always pack the pump with vasoline. That will prime it.

    x2 on Howard's info.

Should you be installing a pump, the easiest way to prime it is immerse the pump in clean engine oil, turn the shaft both directions until all the air is expelled and bolt it up. As an added benefit there will be a considerable period of time before the outside of your new pump will rust ;)
