Well, here is a word to the wise. You know the warnings about not revving the engine while watching closely cause the fan can come apart.... well it's true.
I had the flatty running and brought the RPMs up to 2000-2500 to listen to the engine when a blade came off the fan. It came off with such force that it sliced through the hood and into the air on the passenger side. Looks like it took out the nipple on the vacuum advance unit as well, and sliced through my overflow jug from top to bottom. Hood was down, and latched. Thank God I wasn't on that side when it happened.

There was no warning, and no visible crack. This was the L-head fan that I had transplanted onto the V6. Didn't hurt my aluminum radiator.

Damages: Hood, overflow jug, vacuum advance, and fan. All easily fixable.

I needed an excuse for that electric fan anyway.

I think if SSDutch didn't have a new fan, I'd be ordering one right now.

I remember my dad always telling me never to stand in line with a fan while revving it up. He watched one come apart and go through a mans neck in the Chevrolet dealership in Hendersonville NC one time. He died on the spot. That was 50 years ago....

Did the blade end show signs of a New clean break all the way across? or was there any signs from a prior crack/bend or prior damage to area, It looks like it broke through bolt holes. will make us all think twice about sticking our heads down around that area. I have had a battery try and take my eyesite, but that fan blade might cause one hell of a headache. Glad no one took it on the chin.

I will take a look at it and try to determine where the failure started. I didn't have much time last night, but should have later this week.
