I didnt read all the post so maybe someone else said this. You could always run an mb/gpw system, the exit on the passenger side under the passenger seat.

Sammy when I ripped the exhaust off the 6 at John Bull I took it to my local muffler shop. He ran the exhaust out on the drivers side in front of the back tire. He used a generic car muffler. It worked great, sounded good, and only cost me $120 IIRC (it still had the f-head at this point)

Jim, it didn't smell like it was going to gas you at stop lights correct?

I'll try to manipulate my stock exhaust today, but if I can't get it I guess I'll be running it to Andy's man with the body on it.

OK after seeing where it goes.... My MC is right there, I think... R) So that option is out :(

should clear your MC just fine. I used the kit you got from Herm in an m38 and no exhaust problems. I used a stock cj exhaust on that jeep.

Bill you don't have any pictures do you?
I'm still going to cut the stock one, it seems now I just can't snake it back in (probably shoulda put it in when the shop had the engine out) the banjo's on Herms kit go right up to my bell housing it seems.... [IMG]

the one I did fit a lot better. Did not have the notch the frame or use the banjos that are on yours. I sold that m38 so I dont have any pics. I am running a pto and stock cj exhaust on my current m38. What I did there was just cut the long pipe, add a section fo flex pipe and ran it under the crossmember, worked great for me then.

Yeah it wasn't my doing, I guess you didn't see the thread where I told you guys how the shop was doing it.
I'll go look at it when I pull the body again.

I must have missed that one. When I did mine I just had to cut out the orginal mount on the frame then welded the new one in. The lines where close to the bell housing but the engine stayed in the frame and it didnt sit much different than the stock one. Really didnt get in the way for anything.

Not well, it hits the brace for the MC, it would even if the MC wast recessed into the frame. I'll take it to Andy's guy or try to find someone closer to me so I don't have to tow it to Rio Rancho (sorry Andy)

Alright I met the guy who will do the exhaust today. He can't get to it til next week but I'll wait for him. Fat Max (a big misnomer) is his name, really nice older guy. He'll be modifying the head pipe for about $35-40 and I asked him if he had to run the entire system, how much he'd want, and he said about $160. He knew Jeeps well but thought there was a CJ3C R) that's ok he kept calling mine a 2B. He had a 59 Caddy up on the stands in his incredibly crowded, but homely, shop. Was a hearse, and I kept touching the fins on it and couldn't get over how beautiful it was. He ran the exhaust on it 2 years ago and it looked better than stock. Wed. or Thursday and I'll be towing it down.

$160 total price sounds very good (for a very good job, that is), assuming he's running all the way to the rear.
What diameter pipe are you going with?
    What muffler?

Stock/stock. He's modifying the stock head pipe to fit around everything. The caddy he did looks good. The mechanic who does the family's cars, recommended him. Said he was an artist basically and quite a perfectionist.
But, tomorrow the yeep goes back to who ran the brakes to get one leaking line fixed :D

If it worked in 47 it will work now. I'm going to mention performance to him but I trust him fully with what he knows.
    Let it be...

I was merely seeing if someone ran into the problem as I have. But now that it can be easily fixed, it will be.
    Thanks for your support...

And I have merely been replying to an issue that you may have not given the priority that it deserves. Whilst one is going to have to go thru an exercise, one might as well get the best bang out of it. Intake and exhaust are big deals, ESPECIALLY when it comes to low HP engines. Even today, but more so in the '40's, manufactoring for the "masses" does not necessarily produce the optimal components at the factory level ... i.e., steering box, brakes, overdrive ... ... intake, exhaust.
I like to take the time to educate myself on each phase that I plan to spend real money on (yes, $200 is real money to me).

As an example, (F head) I was in the position to replace a rusted mess of an exhaust. After research, I determined, for my personal expectations, that a 2" exhaust, with crush bends, running in stock configuration, with a LOW restriction "turbo" muffler would be about all I could do to help the little motor. But, the results were a giant improvement over "stock".

    Enjoy :)
