Got my engine back from the guy that rebuilt it, had all sort of issues to deal with while he rebuilt it. Here is a little history. When I decided to restore a Jeep, the hunt started, found one but the tub was in bad shape. The guy said the engine ran, but could not get it to run on my first visit. Went back out and I heard the engine run in his drive way. I bought everything except the tub. Since I heard and saw the engine running, I figured I had a good motor, I figured wrong. I replaced a lot of parts. I am going to show parts I replaced and bring up some other issues.

The bearings had copper showing. Mostly caused by no oil or dirty oil ( not changing oil).

The fuel pump eccentric was worn real bad, most likely dirty oil.

On this, if you have a fuel delivery problem, it could be the fuel pump issue but could it also be a worn fuel pump eccentric?

The oil pump housing in the timing chain cover was worn. The rebuilder did not want reuse the cover, was worried about oil pressure. I replaced the timing chain cover and oil filter housing.

Low oil pressure, could it be caused by a worn housing that the oil pump runs in?

After seeing the wear on the parts, mainly the oil pump, was thinking, if the timing chain cover and oil filter housing where replaced when the engine was rebuilt, when parts where available.

I know now that changing the oil is very important.

All you show is pretty classic for a tired, worn engine from that era. Probably the valve guides were very worn too.

I would suspect that the cylinder walls needed boring , replace pistons & rings.........cam bearings and perhaps the camshaft, grind the crank, resize the rods, valves ,seats & guides addressed, rocker arms & shaft, check the block and heads for flatness and a good boiling bath of all parts prior to reassembly.
