Re: Good example of a bad steering set-up

This is off the subject but... it looks like your V6 has a dip-stick tube for your dipstick. I have two jeeps with 225's but neither one has a dip-stick tube. My dipsticks seat on the top of the block. I've always wondered about crud getting into the oil since there is no tube to act as a barrier to keep it out. Do any of you guys have this same problem or is there a dip-stick tube/dipstick combination available for the 225?

You know i am not sure if it will work, but i was able to buy a dipstick tube and stick from the buick dealer for my 4.1 L Buick. It monuts to the oil pan, but the bottom part was pretty small in diamter that it could have been used with the 225 block. Maybe give a dealer a call and see if you can look at one. Use the year 1983 for what ever car you please :)

The newer 225s had that tube w/ a longer dipstick. Both styles of dipsticks should have a flat "stop" which covers each hole so no crap should get in, and no oil out.

I'll just mention that on my 231 install I had to carefully bend the dipstick tube (that goes on to the pan as mentioned) so it would clear the heater assembly. Rather than buy a new one you might look in the junkyards if you have some good ones around. Buick v6's are pretty common and you can get a dipstick and tube for cheap and bend/modify it to work. Disclaimer: I haven't worked on a Dauntless so am not familiar with the stock dipstick you described.
