Does the wheelbase measurement correspond with the VIN tag? In other words--Is it a CJ6 chassis/wheelbase?

I will have to measure it I'll do that here in a little bit but how could the wheel base be longer or shorter if the tag is on the body and the body fits the wheel base

If you succeed with a picture--a broadside view (not angled) would allow ones to judge if it is a CJ5 or CJ6 in body appearance.

Tags have been known to move over the years, does the tag match the frame numbers?

3 pictures are in your album, but the side shots are angled, not full broadside.

*** Edit/Addition: Thanks, Focker for the enlarged photos. It looks from those to be a CJ5 body. Coolit will have to do more research.

The pictured Jeep is '71 or older CJ-5. The VIN plate is for a CJ-6, starting with 8405. What's the VIN on the title?

From your photos, your Jeep appears to be a CJ5, 1971 or earlier. Measure your wheelbase, and you should find it is 81". A CJ6 (what your VIN tag is from) has a 101" wheelbase. You have a rear mounted fuel tank (not under the drivers seat), and a late style windshield frame and grill which indicates your Jeep is likely a '70 or '71 model year. Your VIN tag on the firewall did not originally come on this Jeep, and it was not originally attached with pop rivets. Phillips screws were used to attach the plate from the factory. There is a frame number on the passenger side top of the rail between the axle centerline and firewall. It may only be 6 or 7 digits, but they will be the original serial numbers, provided the chassis has not been swapped.
That VIN tag on the firewall may cause more problems with titling than not having one at all, especially if you find the original chassis serial number.

    How much did you pay?
    Where did you get it?

Like Donny said... It's not going to be easy to get the paperwork in order.
