Have question about how the front grill is mounted to the frame - as my front grill seems to have a lot of room to slide left and right across the top of the jeep frame. There is obviously a mount bolt that goes through the bottom of the grill and mounts through a second body piece before going through the frame crossmember. Here is the pic of the mount location:

My question is in regards to the the 3-D rectangular block piece of sheetmetal below this mount. Actually, what you see looking into the body mount in pic above is this sort of sub-piece of body. What I noticed, is even with that bolt tightened down, the grill (and thus the fenders attached on the sides of the grill) are can slide around side to side (driver side to passenger side and back). That mount seems to hold the lower piece of metal very nicely in place on the frame, but its not attached to the grill. Should it be? Did some spot welds pop loose that I need to re-attach?

Here is a pic from the underside looking up at the bottom of the mount going up through the frame.

The way the pic is taken, the front of the jeep is to the left. My thumb is on the front grill sheet metal that wraps around and under. The frame mount is the semi-circular part coming in from the right. My index finger is pointing to this sort-of rectangular body piece that is currently behind and under the grill and bolts to the frame, but doesn't seem attached to the grill.

There are supposed to be a pair of rubber bushings, smaller in diameter than a hockey puck but nearly as thick, that mount the grill to the chassis. The thick set of bushings is necessary to allow flex as the frame twists. The wide slot allows for mis-alignment.

    There's your problem- it's actually 4-D, you have to orient it properly in the X, Y, Z & ∞ axisusses.o_O

I have the two rubber bushings... I think my issue is that the bottom piece of the sort of shroud that goes back toward the radiator from the grill is somehow detached from the front grill piece. Thus when the body mount bolt is tightened down - it is only holding the bottom piece of the shroud portion to the frame, and the rest to the grill is free to slide around a bit - held in place only by its side mounting to the fenders. I am guessing there were some spot welds holding the shroud portion to the grill and they have popped loose? Or maybe I should ask - how is the shroud or tunnel portion attached to the front grill?

Okay - here is a better picture. This is looking along the bottom of the backside of the grill and there is a rectangular support piece that the red arrows point to. This is piece is NOT currently attached to the rest of the grill (although its in contact it the top pieces slides around on it). As you can see from the rubber mount in the center of the pic, this is the piece that mounts to the frame. I assume it should be attached in some way (spot welded) to the rest of the grill.

Looking at Ron's photo again - I think its the part the red arrows are pointing at. Guess I got to pull the grill and weld it up.

Got the grill off. Here are the two pieces that should be 1.

Here it is loosely placed back where it should go...will need to clean it up a bit and weld it back.

You had me confused too. I've never seen a grill separate in that area. Now I understand your question.
Weld yours up and you should be fine! At least yours isn't rusted out causing the separation.
