Carter Yf 938sd Float Valve

Guys,

My BIL is rebuilding my Carter YF. It's a 938SD and was rebuilt incorrectly many years ago, and we don't know what float valve to use. Apparently you can use one with a clip, or a spring. The instructions say using the wrong one will cause problems. I've heard the spring is the way to go.

Anyone know for sure what we should use on a 938SD? It's the original to the Jeep and I'd like to get it working again.

 

The correct unit for a jeep also has a smaller fuel orifice. This reduces the overall pressure working to open the valve and reduces flooding on rough or steep terrain.

Many generic kits lack this part, and also the float level must be set differently for each type.

All I can find are a few references to using the spring style needle when possible. I think that's what I'll have my BIL do. If it works, great. If not, we can try it with the clip style.
