So, I picked up what was reported to be a "Flat Fender with a flathead 4". Turned out to be a 1961 CJ-5 that did indead have a flathead 4 (1950's Kiaser Supersonic and inclusion into the flat fender section). PO stikes again! The body was in good enough shape, and the engine at least had such a great paint job that hinted at a recent rebuild that I picked it up anyway in trade.

The meat of the post is the fact that it would not do anything except backfire violently above idle. Napa had the part number 2-5144 for a carter 1-barrel rebuild for $23. I picked it up with some trepidation. While I have rebuilt a few motorycle carbs, I hate them. How many jets and passages could you possibly need to actually atomize fuel and drop into the cylinders?

I honeslty have to say that this rebuild kit was great. I took photo's for the simple reason that I did not want any spare parts but honestly, the instructions and the parts blow outs were pretty good. It even came with the "Metering Rod Adjustment Tool" in a brass rod. I followed the directions as exact as I could and now the beautifil pile of mismatched parts idles like a dream, starts on the first twist of the key and really seems to run great! The addition of a viable steering system and more than one working brake cylinder will validate the rebuild in semi-hi-speed but if your jeep is running rough get this kit.

All jets, gaskets, plunger, fibre washers, and measuring devises were included.
