While on patrol this morning I came across this...umm...thing sitting for sale. It looks like a 3B maybe but withsquare headlights? The owner wasn't home but the wife informed me it was a 49 Willys although she didn't know which model. Sorry I only got the one pic. I got a call and had to leave.

3B with some work done to it, but that wouldn't be a '49. :?

I checked the grille and it's one piece. Doesnt appear to be welded. Also check out the fenders. They're more rounded than any other flat fender I've ever seen.

Would you guys agree that the hood height and grille shape appear to be similar to the 3B?

Maybe one of those Mahindra(sp) Jeeps? Or it could be custom and someone went the extra mile and put the Willys into it.

3B grilles are the only grilles that don't have the slats "pinched" other than the MB/GPW so yes, I agree it's a 3B grille.

If you look under the left headlight there is some sort of logo. When I go back this afternoon I'll get some better pics and see if I can talk to the owner. That is, unless you guys get it figured out before I wake up :)

    I'm off to bed.

Did you ask about it on the 3B forum? Seems like they're still being made in Japan, as well as the Indian Mahindras. Maybe an early Mitsubishi Jeep? Could just be somebody that's really handy with bodywork too....

We'll be waiting for the final word, and more photos too, of course. [IMG]

I'd say it's a 3B. Probably mistaken about '49 or there was some funny business with the title.

Look at the steering - a power steering ram... Gemmer?

:? They must have liked YJ's a lot to put square headlights in a JEEP that came with round ones. Nothing against YJ's or their owners but who would want that?

A mitsu would have the diamonds on the grille. It is a 3B and probably imported. During titling they probably mistaked 59 for 49, on a friday evening before the "party"
3B page has a long list of different import Jeeps. Maybe a phillapino Jeep?

Looks like there is some kind of cover on the cowl that I don't remember 3B's having. The windshield doesn't look right either. Also the little cutout at the lower right of the grill. Looks factory or some good metal work. Don't think a 3B had that either.

some cj3bs that where fire jeeps had the extra pump in the hood. I forget what it was for but if you go on the cj3b page it is there.

Well I went back after I got up this afternoon and spoke to the owner. It appears this is some kind of bastardization(sp?) of a 2A.

It is titles as a 49 2A Ser # 216221 but it does not have any data plates.

The grille is one piece and has not been modified. Note that there are no marker lights in the grille.

The hood is apparantly aftermarket and you can see where the "Willys" plates have been welded in.

I took a pic of the logo, but for some reason I cant find it on my camera now.

Here's a couple of the picsa I took and a link to the rest:

Sone of the things I found interesting were the extra pumps through out the Jeep. Notice the one behind the front bumper and the other under the hood where the data plate should be?

I had taken a bunch more but for some reason I cant find them on my camera
