    hi,

I have a whistle in my alternator and had it also in my old one. It is definitely the alternator. Because when I pull the connector ( ofcourse it does not load then) it is silent. I thought it was my bearing. but with a stethoscope on the rear bearing I hear nothing strange. Due to the fan and the pulley I can not doe this on the front bearing. Buyt the sound seems to come from the side and not inner.

I thought it would be solved by a new alternator. But no. My question is ; is it possible that the diode makes this noice or something else?

please hope for an answer from someone with the same problem or the solution.

It also has a new battery and charges normal

    thank you in advance

    Ewoud

Mine do that also. I have wondered if it's the type of alternator that causes it.

Mine aren't GM but came from an automotive electrical shop, they do whistle more under a load. These are the ones that don't need revved up to start charging. Maybe it's the brand, manufacturer?

It's one thing for the alternator to whistle but can it carry a tune?

"Do you know Your Alternator Whistles?"

"No, but if you hum the first three bars, I'll pick it up from there..."

No, but it can hold the same note for quite a while. It's quite amazing, actually. :)
