So I've had this new jeep for 2 weeks now and I've already got a couple complaints.

The first one is that the front windshield whistles. The way it was designed, there is a gap around and under the edge of the glass all the way around. The wind hits it and it sound like blowing over an empty coke bottle. I know it's a jeep and it IS a Cadillac (as far as ride ) compared to my CJ5, but come on, I know the engineers heard this when it was being tested. If you look online, there are tons of complaints about it. I tried the screen door rubber, but that won't work.

My second complaint deals with the headlights. I took the new jeep out to the deer lease this weekend and camped out. We were going down country roads at night and I think I could have gotten more light from a $4 flashlight from Walmart. the high beams aren't any brighter, they just angle the light up a little. The stock $10 headlights on my CJ5 are way brighter. I've seen tons of complaints about this too. One fix involved rewiring the headlight harness. Nothing on a new car should need rewiring. I may go with the upgraded $50 Sylvania bulbs, but it's just frustrating

Ok, I'm done.....I still love this new Jeep

I've got an '07 Grand. What really surprises me is the depth the windshield is set in, it builds up snow on the edges. Definitely engineered in a place that doesn't get snow.

Regarding the whistle... you mentioned screen door rubber didn't work... but that gave me an idea.

Get some black fiberglass screen... screen-door screen.
Cut a few pieces, and tape them over the suspected offending areas. it should be just enough to disrupt the airflow and eliminate the whistle.

You can tape small pieces, 3-4" long, and test drive... move them around until you find the right spot. Maybe try different screen sizes, metal screen, etc. When you find the spot, you can find a way to more permanently affix the screen/insert it into the gap... maybe using some black RTV to hold it in place.

    This should work...

Hmmmm, ordered a JKU-R a couple weeks back. It is going to be the dd so I hope there are not too many problems. Roof leak?

There's no leaks and the interior is quiet. The only thing odd, but may contribute to the quiet interior is that you have to slam the doors to get them to shut. I say slam as it compares to Toyotas since that is the only brand I have owned.

What's your opinion on the new V6? I had a rental GRand Cherokee with it, and it ran nicely, pretty good power output.

the pentastar engine is much better in the jk:)

I've dealt with a bunch of wind and water leaks on the jk's --07 up-- and this is the first i've heard about a whistle??

    same with lights...

i'll have to pay attention to those next time I test drive one at work.

The 3.6 is a nice engine. We're hoping it doesn't develop any problems. Time will tell, but from what I've seen so far if they are putting it in everything and getting rid of all the other v6's it should be good. They are using the NAG1 trans behind the 3.6 now too. That is a nice trans. It holds up very well behind hemi's so shouldn't be any problem in the jeeps.

I don't know; haven't driven a Pentastar, but it's hard to argue with an additional 100 horsepower.

X2. I understand the love of the I-6 but more power, a flat torque cure, better fuel economy, better emissions, are hard to argue with.

How about a twin turbo Pentastar? I have read that is a possibility.

According to allpar, the Pentastar motor was designed from the get go to have turbo on it and the kits are already available aftermarket.
The word at allpar is that the hemi will not live much longer as it is way more costly to produce and the Pentastar will have more power eventually with better mileage. The Pentastar is already being designed in a larger displacement with more power and turbo available, eventually to be placed in trucks.
The engine really is a tech wonder but time will tell how it all holds together.

My dad just got a new Grand cherokee with the pentastar. WOW, its is the smoothest, quietest, most powerful jeep engine I've ever experienced. I can't see getting the hemi over the pentastar. It runs circles in every way over the 4.0, as much as I hate to admit it. Reliability, however, remains to be seen, but due to the complication of modern engines, I can't see it besting the 4.0 there.

Yep, I drove a GC rental for a bit, it just continues to pull. Impressive for a V6.

Like I said I have driven a Penastar Grand. Nice setup, Dads comment was "I could get into trouble with this" I will say longevity is in question, but then again I bet people were saying the same thing when the 232 I-6 came out and look at where it went.

Hey there-although I never did own one with a 6, just the clunker 250/287/327's.

I am looking forward to the JK, but am sure there will be a few problems. Hopefully, the head gaskets will last longer than the 100k the Subaru's got.

My wife's 2012 is a 6spd manual, 4:10s and my 2007 is the same setup but with the bigger tires and a lift. The new engine is noticeably smoother and more powerful, especially at highway speeds. Around town I would say the difference is not as dramatic. I would be interested in getting a lift on the 2012 for a real back to back comparison of lifted 4-doors.
