 It uses that much oil and doesn't smoke bad? How does it run, low power too? I just wonder if the fuel pump is leaking into the block and diluting the oil. When you check your oil have you noticed it smelling like gasoline?

How many miles is equal to 5 quarts of oil consumption? There is no way to burn that much and not notice some smoke.

5 quarts a week???? Are you sure? My 225 uses about a quart every 1500 miles, 76,000 on it now, I think it's pretty OK at that. I wouldn't think you could use that much oil without a bunch of blue smoke, especially when the motor is hot......

goochie: Are you sure about that? That's almost a qt a day. And NO leaks?

Mine uses about 1/4 cup in 3 months--and it's hot here.

A late model 231 or 3.8 liter buick V6 will drop right in. I think older even fires will also. you will need to use 2 225 short water pump and maybe grind a bit on the nonsealing surface of the manifolds to allow sealing. A 225 would probably be stronger. AM

If this were the case, wouldn't the dipstick show over full?
Oil must be going somewhere. How's the PCV valve, breather on the valve cover if you have one? I had a truck that was losing oil and the tailgate was spotted with it. Rear main was gone and entire undercarriage was coated with oil.

I agree, the 1st thing you'd think would be the crankcase showing over full if the fuel pump was leaking into the block. Anyway, how long has this been going on? And when do you check the oil? Right after shutting it off, or letting it sit and cool down? Maybe oil isn't draining back off the top of the heads fast enough? Doesn't leak or smoke bad? Hmmmmmm.

You might consider the front seal on the crank. I bought and subsequently drug home a tired 67 V6 from Colorado in 92. I drove it for 6weeks in Co. Never used any oil. I never got the rpms up very high as it had a bad tire and wobbled like mad if speeds exceeded 45 mph. I towed it to Cincinnati and then drove it to Toledo - some 200 miles. I had replaced the bad tire. I ran 65 mph all the way and axles were 4.88 so I was running some high rpms. Pulled her in and shut her off. Checked oil next day and couldn't get a stain on the dipstick. It leaked terribly out of the front cover at high rpm. Thankfully, I did not blow the motor. AM
