My '78 with a 304 V8 and a stock 4 bll carb has a tendency to quit whenever it wishes. To restart, it appears that I have to hold the throttle to the floor to get it restarted, Sounds like it is flooded to me. However, when it starts to die, I can sometimes pump the throttle to keep it going. I am confused. Any ideas? :? :stout: :?

I am by far no carb expert, but it sounds as though something may be hanging/sticking open. Try some good carb cleaner or taking it apart and cleaning it well.

if tis just a cleaning thing try pouring about 1/3 of a bottle of seafoam into the carb while its running, then let it sit for about five minutes and start it back up. just a warning: its gonna stink so you might want to do this outside

What kind of carburetor? AFAIK Jeep never offered a 4V 304.

sounds like aftermarket intake with a four barrel. sounds like you may have a float sticking in the bowls go to autoparts store get a rebuild kit for the thing and freshen up your gaskets and rings adn take a look at the floats operations while you are taking it apart. also Do not rule out your fuel pump might just be starving the carb with a fuel pump going bad
