225 OF Help from the guru's

    I'm still having timing issues with my jeep and can't seem to resolve the problem. I have a 225 Oddfire V6 with HEI and it seems to idle up just fine, but when idleing down it has a farting sound coming from the passenger bank of cylinders. I did get it to switch to the driver side but I have not been able to find a hapy sweet spot to make it disappear. Is this normal? I thought at first it might be a timing issue it does occasionally back fire lightly from the passenger side too. Today I change the cap, rotor, an internal control module, and plugs. I have new wires but didn't want to cut and swap them yet. I also tried a spring and weight recurve kit. I started with the heaviest springs and work my way to the lightest. To my untrained ear everything seems to be the same. The only thing that changed it was the springs and that only made a noticeable difference initially and then it seemed to go back to the gurgle fart sound. Right now timing is set at about 10*. I messed with the carb and this didn't seem to help. If I knew what adjustment did what maybe I could give it another go. Plugs are gaped at .045. would appreciate any and all guidance and help.:?TY

    If I understand you correctly, when you let off the throttle it backfires, but runs fine idling and accelerating? My 225 with the HEI conversion does that too, I believe it is because I am still using the stock vacuum advance. If I slowly let off the throttle it drops to an idle just fine without the popping sound (fuel igniting in the exhaust manifold) I believe installing an adjustable vacuum advance would cure this, but don't take my word for it, someone with more experience on this subject will hopefully chime in soon.

    My other suggestion would be to pull the plugs and if they are a sooty black then you are getting too much fuel into the engine and may want to adjust your carb's idle setting and/or jets.

    Good luck, and report back with what you try to fix this issue, I am very curious of the results.

    With all I've done to mine I'm not sure what did it but mine just decelerates with no popping.

    HEI, adjustable cannister, and MSD box.

    However, a friend that has a 225 with the stock Delco and Pertronix has this same "issue".

    Zup: What kind of exhaust setup do you have ? Lack of back pressure can cause this popping. For the vacuum advance.. I ended up disconnecting mine, and it behaves much better pretty good :) Another idea.. did you install this HEI yourself ? how did you verify it was actually a OF HEI ? :oops: I ran my 225 OF with a EF for a while and it did pretty darn good.
