1960's Cj5 Oem Tail Gate Chain Covers

Hello all - looking for information on what do original Kaiser-Willys tailgate chain covers look like. There are all types of replacements sold through retailers (fire hose to bike inner tube) but if someone has photos of originals on an early 60's CJ5 it would be appreciated. Thanks.

 

The original chain covers on my ‘64 Tuxedo Park were the same red pinpoint vinyl material as the convertible top. The outside finish was vinyl, and the inner liner was a white-ish canvas like material. This inner material held moisture and caused the chrome chains to rust after the first several years,

As I recall my 1950 pickup, they seemed to be the same gray naugahyde as the seat covers.

Up here, the covers hold water that turns to ice half the year. I make sure to have a drain hole at the low point in each one.

There is a member of ECJ5 that was selling repros. Try a search of the archive?

 

Only memories. Those chain covers rotted off back in the mid- late 1970s.

My '68, '69, '71 all have the some black pvc(?) tubes with a drain hole on the bottom. Two of the Jeeps have original paint, so I'm guessing the chains are original too.
