Have you tested for vacuum leaks around the throttle shaft? I had problems with the float settings, I found a Carter bulletin on the 3b site...
I don't think it's physically possible to hear a mild knock/tic with an open exhaust- the human ear just isn't built to work with that kind of...

So either there's a short to ground there someplace or the switch contacts got resistive. If a short then: Could be in the switch. Could be in...
Rebuild of the flat head, assuming it's just worn, is fastest/cheapest/easiest and will have a lot more pep than it does in it's present state.

I'm still liking the Torsen if you want to roll your own, seems like many of the Torsens used in this application came with a front/rear bias...
Very Neat :) But what happens if you throw a U Joint or snap a drive shaft? With the open diff doesn't that kill all power to the remaining...
