rocker guards

Does anyone make rocker guards for a flatty? Or if you made some yourself, post em up, please.

 

Heres mine. Made them from an old set of diamond plate running boards. they wrap under the bottom too

I AM GOING TO PUT SOME ON MY YJ. Very simple, 16" wide sheet of 1/4 inch steel plate the length from wheel well to wheel well. I will have the steel yard cut it and bend a 90 degree longways, 5" from outer edge. This gives me 5" below the door and 11" underneath. That is a lot underneath but I need to anchor the seat, seat belt and two body mounts on each side. Later, can add some tube as a step/rocker rail. I don't know if they will do this at the steel yard without buying a full sheet of steel. But, I will find some use for it between my various jeeps and projects.

 

Here are a few pictures of my sliders. They are predominately made of 1 1/2" square tubing with 1" diagonal braces. 1/8" plate. They are bolted to existing holes in the 3a's frame. A single 1/2" hole above rear spring hanger and multiple 3/8" holes in the front. The front holes already have threaded nuts as stock. They are then bolted upward through the floorboard into the roll cage or hat channel.

And then I will say I cheated, as they are cross bolted both vertically and horizontally to this thing recessed under the floor, with the extended lip of the body sandwiched in between.

 

I wish I had some of those cool skids for my exhaust--they's neato.

 

I ordered the steel today for the YJ rocker guards. They found a "drop" so I didn't have to buy a full sheet of 1/4" plate. They are going to shear 2 pieces 53" x 16" and then put it in the brake and bend a 90 degree 5" from the long edge. This will give me 5" on the side(just below the door) and 11" underneath which will pick up the2 body mounts on each side and extend over the frame. Cost $120. Latter I will bend some tube to make a rail/step and weld it to the side plate. If I were to do one of my CJ2A's I would adjust the length to the distance between the fender wells and the width to hit just below the door and to reach over the frame underneath. I would have the steel yard shear and bend the piece as a single straight piece. Then when I get it home I would cut a pie shaped piece from the underneath portion to make the necessary bend to follow the bend in the tub. With a torch, I think I could heat up the "tall" side to allow the pie shaped cut out to close underneath. The YJ is my 18 year old son's project. I am trying to finish my 47 cj2a by spring.
