I am replacing the PCV valve and hoses on my 232. I have installed new rear grommet and pcv valve and hose to manifold. The question I have, is how/what connects to the front of the valve cover? The PO just had the hose going into a rubber grommet and tape to the carb. Im pretty sure this isn"t right, but cant find any info on how it should be hooked up. The tsm doesnt show the front hole in detail. To be clear, I have 3 holes in the valve cover. The oil fill, front hole and rear hole. Thanks for any help, or pics would be great.

Year? You want a pic from your year or close to it, since the setup changes from year to year.

The PCV takes clean air from the air cleaner. If the PCV valve is on the rear hole, then the clean air goes in the front hole.

its a 74 232. The way the PO had it, it had a rubber grommet and ill fitting hose that had been taped up to make it fit more snuggly. The hose goes into to front left of the carb. The air intake was/is not currently on the jeep. It needs to be replaced.

What I was wanting to know is how should that forward hose connect? Is there a valve there or is the hose just supposed to fit tightly into the grommet?

You should have the molded hose like DREDnot shows, Jeep PN 3190565: http://www.quadratec.com/products/52449_0566.htm - this should be easy to get. If Quadratec stocks it, other Jeep specialty retailers will too. It's not a valve, it's just a hose that's molded to fit into the valve cover. Goes to the air cleaner, not the carburetor.

You should also have a filter that fits inside the molded hose, Jeep PN 3182487 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Jeep-CJ5-CJ...82487-/270596294082?item=270596294082&vxp=mtr - this may be more difficult to source. You might be able to adapt another type of filter to fit inside the hose. It looks like a piece of pipe with copper wool inside of it - should be easy to make.

Thanks Tim, I will keep an eye out for an origianl filter housing. If the hose does not go to the carb, what goes to the carb there? It seems to run ok. the way it is. Or what page number in the fsm?
