Original owner of a '69 V-6. I am looking to replace the shocks on it. Its is in fantastic condition with about 70k original miles. Always garaged. Any recommendations on a shock that isnt too stiff?

It's probably not the shocks that are stiff on the rig if your looking for a softer ride.

Adjustable - Rancho 9000s are great, and I just put a set of Gabrials on my kids rig that seem to be pretty nice (we don't have much 'feel' time on them and it has Skyjacker softride springs).

I like a hydraulic shock vs. a more modern gas filled shock. I like the Rancho 5000's though, the 9000's adjustability would be nice. I just never could drop
    the scratch for a set.

If everything else is stock, it's hard to argue with going with an OEM replacement like Monroes. Lots less expensive too compared to off-road brands but it all depends on what you want out of them.

A '69 with 70k on the clock is probably sagging pretty well. Take a look at the front springs just behind the front wheels and see how the springs line up with the bump stops. If yours is like mine and most of the Jeeps of this vintage with the factory springs, they are going to be pretty flat, and that is most likely the root of any ride issues you may have. The '73 has about 3/4" of free travel before the leaves hit the bump stops, so needless to say some new springs are in my future and my Jeep only has 32k on it. I would look at the whole system.

My experience with Rancho 5000's is that they are STIFF !
Go with a stock replacement if the rig is mostly stock - that will yield the best ride. The 9000's are adjustable, but a bit pricey.
