    Guys,

Had to put a new timing chain cover on my 66 V6 225... problem I am now having is my oil filter keeps blowing out. Place I bought cover from said it was matching cover, and it went on without a problem, but now I'm trying to figure out how to get the right size oil fillter now.

    Help!

    Thanks,

Well, first off, the oil filter threads onto the oil pump cover, which is bolted to the timing chain cover. Did you replace the oil pump cover as well?
What exactly do you mean by "blowing out" the oil filter?

When i recieved the timing chain cover it still had the oil pump already on it. And what i mean by the by blowing out, is the oil filter rubber sealing ring keeps blowing out.

    Thanks

Do you have an oil pressure gauge? Sounds like the pressure is too high. You might remove the relief valve and spring and make sure it's clean and moves freely.

can you describe what it looks like. describe the process of finding the relief valve and removing it and cleaning it.

    thanks

Looks like a big bolt head on the front of the oil pump cover. Remove it and there's a spring and piston under it.

Probably a dumb question, but did you replace the original cover with a 225 cover (are the timing marks molded into the cover)?

I replaced my cover with a 231 cover, and the oil filter threads changed from standard to metric, so I had to get a different oil filter.

ok we found it. ending result was a broken spring and a lot of crap.

If it were me, I'd pull the pump cover off and clean it out as well, and put a rebuild kit in it (pump gears, gasket, relief piston and spring). Don't forget to pack the housing with petroleum jelly before you put it back together.

Hey all... well, I replaced the spring back in August and the Jeep ran fine for a while...(weekend driver around town). Then the oil filter blew off again and dumped all my oil on Main St!! I picked up a rebuild kit from Autozone and tried to do it yesterday, but I hit another snag. Seems the valve is embedded into the oil pump cover. I plan on shopping around for a new cover, but any thoughts on why it would keep blowing out? I don't have an oil pressure gauge and this Jeep is really a learning experience for me; I have never done this kind of stuff before. Any advice appreciated! Thanks...
