Too Rich?

    Hello

    My jeep is not running as it should. Im sure its because of the one bbl weber, wich is not set correctly - but im not sure if its running too rich or too lean. What happends, is that if i press the speeder all the way down, fast, while holding still, the engine almost dies and i have to release the pedal right away to avoid that.

    That sounds like, your ignition is too advanced. Try retarding your timing a few degrees and make sure your accelerator pump in your carburetor is working.

    If I'm understanding correctly the engine bogs when revving in neutral? How does it run otherwise. This sounds more like a accelerator pump issue than a timing issue.

    Stock carb?

    I will try to retard the timing a little.

    73CJ5. When i drive normally, and hit the speeder all the way down it almost dies. When i drive normally, and accelerate a little harder than "normal" the engine stalls and only accelerates a little, and it shakes at the same time. When im driving up a hill and trying to accelerate nothing happends. I do not have the torque the engine should have. I figures it was a carb thing, the stalling. Then yestoday i noticed that it almost died, and then i concacted you guys :)

    so,,, did you shut the motor off , pull the air cleaner and have someone push on the gas pedal.look to see if there is a steady shot of fuel , that will tell you the condition of the accel pump. then go from there .....

    Hello Guys.

    First of all i pulled the plugs, it seems like they are filled with carbon. See attached image.[​IMG]

    When i take off the airfilter, have the engine started, and pushes the pedal, it sometimes shoots fuel up from the carb - is that normal?

    The fuel filter is by the way not sealed tight, so air is entering the filter from different locations, would that cause problems? (its the original filter)

    I rebuild the carb with a rebuild kit, and replaced the pump diaphgram and some gaskets. It actually doesnt stumble anymore, but not the whole car jumps and the engine almost shuts off. This occoures if i go into gear number two at too few rpm..

    Im going crazy over this problem!

    By the way, i tested compression by pulling a plug at a time, and running the starter. Didnt take notice if it was the compression stroke or the intake stroke, dont know weather that makes any difference?1: 90 psi
    2 100 psi
    3 95
    4 110
    5 110
    6 95

    a little addition: the problem with the car almost jumping, happends if i put it in gear 2 and hit the speeder all the way! so actually the problem have changed from stalling which happended driving up hill and accelerating - it can actually do that now. But when i shift into gear at low rpm and hitting hard, it jumps. Its rpm is high, it runs great.
