I have a '74 and it does not have a support baffle in the rear fenderwells. Instead it has a hat channel in there. I understand that that is a baffle that covers the entire area, and doubles as a method to keep the mud from flinging up against the back of the lights.

The other side has that support piece that holds the rollover valve, but that's it.

I'd really like to see a clear picture of what this baffle is supposed to look like once installed.

OK. I finally signed up for Photobucket.

The first photo is taken from the tire side, looking at the baffle as it covers the tail light. If you look closely, you can see that the baffle is welded to the tub but there is a space between the inside of the rear fender and the baffle. The cut wires you see are for the side marker light.

In the second photo, you are looking at the baffle from the bottom upward.

Here's one of the passenger side on a 72. I could take more if you need a different view.

Mine's a '72 as well(pic is of passenger side). As you can see, I don't have that huge circle cut. I wonder why the difference?

Okay...those pics are very helpful, Thanks!

Since my Jeep is already repaired, painted, etc. I'll have to find another way to attach a baffle on the passenger side. The other side is pretty easy since it's really a half baffle, unless I'm mistaken and a full one is required over there also.

I'm pretty sure that some were a little different depending on whether a side mount tire was there or not.

Interesting. The hat channel on my left and right side is identical and look just like your bottom pic of your left side. My right side does not have a horizontal hat channel, it's vertical. What's up with that.

Good question. My Jeep's serial number indicates that it's a 74 but sometimes it acts like a 73 (No bulkhead connector for wiring harness, just a grometed pass through) Maybe I've got an eary 74 with a leftover 73 tub?

Don't know if my '72 ever had a charcoal canister. Wasn't one there when I bought it. My plan is to put one under the hood and route it there from the rear driver's fenderwell.

Mine is April '74...I think it's still considered an "early" 74...Jeep is high on the side, etc.

Liquid check valve for the vapor recovery system. Two lines on the bottom go to the tank, and the one from the side goes to the charcoal canister under the hood ('73 on - '72 is different).

Yes, 'the '72 vapor recovery system is quite different from the '73 on. Look at the emissions chapter in the '72 manual http://trailforge.com/TSM/Section_04A.pdf - only the V8 automatics got the vap can that year. To see the parts by the tank, look at the fuel-carburetion chapter http://trailforge.com/TSM/Section_04.pdf

I'm starting to think that the baffle like the one in the pics is for when a side mounted spare was there. My 74 had the rear mounted spare.
