I put a new painless wiring harness in my jeep and replaced the master brake cylinder, and the brake switch, but for some reason the brake lights are always on.

I even disconnected the wires from the brake switch and the wires from the spartan turn signal unit (which is a whole nonther headache), but they still stay on

any ideas where the problem could be? am i not grounded properly?

Four way flasher woes? Not enough power to heat the bimetal strip so it just glows.

Not a ground problem yet.. Your brake switch should be powered directly from a battery (always hot) source (may be fused) then thru the brake switch and on to the turn signal switch. Since you don't have your turn signal switch connected to anything and yet your stop lights are "ON" that tells me you are not wired correctly.. We need to get a test light and start back-tracking..

Ok i think i figured it out the wiring diagram says to hook the tail lights to the head light switch, and so does the painless wiring harness. All i had to do was remove the tail light cable and every thing works great.
I guess i just stow the tail light cable now
