Clutch problem after rebuild

    Hey guys.

    Today i got my engine startet after a complete rebuild.

    I was gonna take it for a drive, when i realized that i could not put it into gear. When the engine is turned off, its no problem.

    I had the flywheel machined down, i bought a new friction plate, but the clutch pressure plate is all the same af before.

    When i try to put it in gear, it just wont go down, unless i do it really hard. We have tried to adjust the release rod, aswell as the clutch push rod without any noticable result.

    The only thing i can think of could be wrong, is the: 1. friction plate is positioned with the wrong side into the flywheel. 2. friction plate does not fit my engine. The old friction plate had 1 more spring than the new one..

    pretty sure the clutch is backward...you got all the sympton i have gotten 2 month ago...

    Improperly installed plate will definitely give you a problem but why did you only replace the plate? Never a good idea to not replace the both at the same time.

    It is mainly because it would cost me about 150 Dollars just in freight, because of the high weight of the pressureplate.

    When you say clutch is backward, do you mean that the friction plate is positioned with the wrong site to the flywheel, or do you mean the pressure plate?

    How do i pull it out, without taking out the entire engine?

    x2 pull tran and t-case and keep engine in place...one little trick to make sure you put it in the good position, put the friction disq against the flywheel and try to turn it...you will see that there on side that is a lot easier to turn than the other.

    Most clutch discs that I have installed have the words"This side toward engine", or words to that effect, etched into the metal of the disc.

    Okay thanks guys. Should i seperately pull the tran and then the t-case, or should i pull it down as one piece?

    I would say one piece, then you wont have to worry about tying up the main gear in the tranny. However, its a heavy b%^& so if you don't have a good tranny jack it might be tough. I realize you are in Europe, but I'm curious why it would cost so much to ship the pressure plate, I think it only weighs 10-20 lbs.? In the US I bought the friction plate, presure plate, fork, and cable for less than $150 with shipping.

    yeah i have also been curius a lot of times, why the ffreight prices are so extreme! I think the warehouses are making a lot of money, shipping parts to europe. Last i bought a portet vacuum hose, price 6 USD, freight 22 Dollars!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Parts in US are really cheap, but freight is INSANE!
