I am in the process of restoring the braking system on my 59 cj5....I bought a new brake pedal return spring but cannot figure out where to attach it. I know it attaches to the pedal arm through the hole in the armature... but where does it attach back on the frame ??? I do not know if I am missing something that should attach to the frame...There is a thin metal clip that is on the opposite side of the frame from the clutch spring but this seems to thin and may be a brake line retainer clip???? Should there be an eyelet??? Anybody have any pics?? The PO had a shorter spring attached to the floorboard...I could tell however this was a spring that was shortened. Thanks in advance for the help guys : )

Not sure on the 59's but my 66 as an angular tab the comes up from the cross-member with a small hole for the spring.

Wow. Mine isn't too dangerous. I'm sure it's a hardened, NASA cotter pin, not a Harbor Freight pos. At least this is an easy fix. Thanks, Tbone.

It looks as though the original spring location (arm to firewall/floorboard hole) may be correct after all. My 59 has the T98 transmission which puts the transmission support too far (an additional 6") back. I wiped back the oil/undercoating where the bracket should be on the tranny support and the mounting hole still has the original paint with no marring. I may need to get another spring that is shorter to go from brake arm to firewall.??? Anybody else have the T98??? What setup do you have for the spring???
