Starting a new camp trailer

I always get a false sense of ability when I watch others who know what they are doing. Keep up the great work!

 

Got to spend some more time working on the trailer today.

Wall 1 is Up.




Followed Quickly by wall 2.





I could not wait to see if the fenders would cover the wheels/tires. So I put the wheel back on and temporarily mounted the fender. It fits great. The fender is a stock Jeep TJ rear fender flair. They are cheap and can be found virtually anywhere. They just require a few minor modifications and then bolt on.

 

Great fit on the TJ flairs.

Slowly working on the tongue box. Its integrated into the body and is taking a while to workout all the angles and lengths.

Yup, still planning on having it done by the end of summer. I have pushed my trip plans off until early September (wanted to do it then anyway to avoid crowds). But I am still planning on going.

 

Rough fit all the panels for the tongue box.

 

Does the tongue box open up to the interior? Looks like it may also be accessed from outside too.

 

No it is not accessible from the interior. But I am stealing 6 inches from the box to give me enough headroom to sleep comfortably. Hense why it is built in and not just a seperate box on the front.

 

Got to spend another Saturday in the garage.

I finished up the front lower panels and installed them.



Used pocket screws to secure the panel to the tongue box.



I will build shelves and a cabinate front in the cubbys to use the space for storage.



I also purchased windows and door latches this week. I am still deciding how I am going to lay them out exactly.



The lower part of the window cranks out to allow ventilation even in rain. Found these on E-bay.

I have always had an aptitude for mechanical work and spacial relations. No idea where it comes from. Lord knows my siblings don't have it.

 

Built the bulkhead between the sleeping area and the tongue box storage today.



This indent is to allow me to stretch out and sleep comfortably.



Test fitting the IOTA AC/DC power distribution box. I decided to mount it here for easy access to the DC fuses and AC circuit breakers from inside the cabin.

Nice work! I assume you are a regular over on the T&TTT forum. I would like to build one in the not too distant future. Been doing some initial planning. Had planned on the same idea for the wheel wells, half in, half out. Most teardrops are not. Does the trailer wheel have the same track as your jeep? BTW those TJ fenders look great.

 

Yes the trailer wheels are the same track width as the LJ. Also same bolt pattern. I can use the spare on either the Jeep or the trailer.

I finally got the tongue box finished. If I I ever build another one, I don't think I would integrate the box. What a pain. The end result is worth it. But is a lot of work.

I missed 2 build weeks when I got sick over Memorial Day weekend and took 2 weeks to stop trying to cough up a lung.

Here is the recent progress:

Finished the Tongue box and the front panel for the trailer. To the right of the trailer you can see the first roof panel with the spars curing. It is actually starting to look like my design.
