I need confirmation whether this is a renegade wheel...and if so...what approximate year?

Thanks for the tip on the polish. Their web site has some good information on it. Have you ever polished with the tires still on? I guess you would have to protect the tire somehow.

For me it was tires and stems off the wheels, then right angle grinder and fine wire wheel everything and I mean everything. Then nothing but elbow grease & wet-or-dry paper stepped down to 800 grit or finer and more elbow grease. Finished with Mothers Mag & Aluminum Polish and more elbow grease. You can get Mothers at any wal-Mart or your nearest FLAPS.

You can polish them to a mirror finish, with enough work. The original finish is more like a matte aluminum ... bright but not a mirror finish.

Aluminum will oxidize to a dull or chalky finish though. I believe the usual approach is to get the wheels to the finish that you like, then clear-coat them. Wax is another option, but it has to be renewed on occasion. If you don't coat them with something, they will oxidize to a matte and eventually a chalky finish.

To me, the wheel in the pic above looks rather oxidized. It has an overall bright finish, but has blooms of oxide.

Clear coat? Like a paint type clear coat?

I'll post up some pics in a bit...I bought a set of 4. They do have some light oxidation, but I think it will polish out. Should I worry about the reverse side too?

Here we go. I hope I did good for $150.

Is there any raised lettering on the backside of them?
If so what does it say? I have two rims that look identical and two that are a little off and just wanted to compare.

You are right on the money. Three of those wheels are identical...and one is just a little bit different. You can see it on the beveled part just on the outside of where the lug nuts go...the bevel is just a little larger on the wheel to the right.

Dang. I thought I was doing good with this set. Now I only have 3 that actually match!:(

The numbers on the inside of the others are A17094 (on one) and A17127 (the other two)...neither are raised though, they are stamped. The fourth odd-ball wheel has no number marking, but there is the letter "S" (also stamped) near one of the ovals on the back.

They are all 15x7...5x5 1/2 bolt pattern...with large 4"+ hub. They look just like the picture in the parts book too. The guy told me that they came off a '76...which makes sense because the part number for 74/75/76 is the same "AR 535-2817" according to the Jeep parts manual.

$150 is a great price, you did good, that's what mine were, wish I could come across a fifth for my spare. Clean em, Mount em and Wheel em, they'll be fine.

Thanks. Actually...I need 3 more...1 for a spare and 2 for the M416. At least I'll know that I need to take more time to compare them the next time around.

The two slots I have are marked A13530 on the inside.
    What are they from?

The Axxxxx stamping seems to vary, possible date code? I have looked at several complete sets, the wheels being identical other than varying numbers.
If you clean up the back side all should be stamped " forged " as well.

    I was told they came off a 76 CJ5.

I've read where they would say "forged" and I looked pretty closely yesterday but couldn't find anything. I need to powerwash the inside to get it really clean, maybe that would help.

tractor trailer supply places (heavy duty parts store) will sell a renewing type acid for aluminum trailer parts that will speed up the cleaning process

I'd be very leery of putting acid on aluminum parts, it could etch them badly and leave them with a chalky surface that would be even harder to polish off than the original oxidation. Certainly don't ever put any base solution (lye) on aluminum, (like oven cleaner), it will turn it a chalky white that is nearly impossible to polish off.

Great, if you score an add'l set of four, keep me in mind for the extra and I'll do the same. I've thought about slots for my M416, but they're 16" and 15" on the Jeep.
