I have the 304 and would like a tach mounted to the steering column in my 73. What brand are you all running and how simple is it to hook up? Thanks in advance.

I just installed a Sunpro, too.

Four wires. 12V hot in run(ran mine to the cig lighter circuit),Ground, Tach sense(- side of the coil), Lights(ran mine to the wire that illuminates the heater controls)

    Thats it

I have a Summit Tach. Easy install. black to ground (or battery), red to hot (ignition switch), and green to Tach on distributor. I have it mounted to the steering column. ALso, there are 7 colors to choose when it is running. Works well and the son likes picking colors.

I've been looking at the sunpros, but I do like the look of that summit one. If I knew it would instantly transform my cj into looking that good, I'll order one now!

I'm running a VDO ordered from Summit years ago. Very simple and reliable.

It appears they all run about $40 so I'll probably go with the proven sunpro name. Thanks for everyones input.

There is a (+) terminal and a (-) terminal on the coil.
Just hook it to the (-) terminal.

    I haven't installed it yet.
With only a few days left of jeep weather, I've just been driving it everywhere all the time. In a week or two, it will be 100+ degrees for the next 6 months and I'll do it then as I plan to pull the dash back out to clean up a few loose ends ,fix the gas gauge and install a real temp gauge.

I understand that i live in Houston the concrete capital, and i have been thinking about installing a real temp gauge just havent ordered one yet been battling leaks. Kind of like a cartoon i once watched were you stick your finger in one hole to stop the leak and it starts leaking somewhere else

My cig lighter is fed by juice from the ammeter. Is that correct? I'm trying to figure out where to hook my red tach wire (battery terminal).

Thanks. I believe the original owner in the 70's wired in a cigar lighter from a jeepster. There is a smaller guage wire on the lighter that is butt spliced to a 10 ga wire tied to the ammeter. The wiring diagram I have shows the lighter originally connected directly to the ignition switch.
