Which of these wheels is factory?

The other day I noticed that my 78 has two different kinds of wheels on it. They both look like 15X6 but they are different.

I have two of these and think they are the correct ones.

I also have two of these that have a raised space between each of the lugnuts where it looks like they could be drilled for more lugnuts.

    Anyone have any ideas?

I'm inclined to agree with your assessment that the top one is factory. The 3 hub cap attachment points seem correct.

Maybe Pete will show you a nice side shot of his new tires on the rims...they're factory rims.

This sucks too. I thought I was only going to have to find a spare wheel. Now I'm going to have to find three wheels.

Bottom one may be a Ford (or Dodge? more likely Ford) wheel with the center cut out. Commonly done. Look for other marks on the wheel - the Ford wheels have the blue oval or FoMoCo somewhere, as I recall. Top one is Jeep.

Tim seems to have the inside line on these things and he say's top so that's probably correct. Mine look like the top ones too so I'm glad to know mine are factory correct.

When did they change from 5.5" wide to 6" wide? Mine measure 5.5 inside the lip.

I'd say the top ones. They look like my factory set-up.

Mine are not original to my jeep.
I have one of my five wheels that has the rectangular slots as opposed to the radius style slots. It was off of a postal jeep and is 5.5"wide.

Now I have another question. I think the lugnuts in the bottom picture are correct and the chrome ones in the top picture are wrong. Anyone agree?

Came from the factory with plain zinc plated lug nuts. The acorn nuts are added.

Tim I hate to ask a stupid question, but does that mean I'm correct that the nuts in the bottom picture are correct?

Pete I think they may have changed wheel sizes in 76 when front disk brakes became an option. Tim would know for sure.

Yep. The silvery plating is zinc typically. The top picture has acorn nuts, which are either aftermarket (likely) or were meant for the Jeep aluminum wheels.

Man, that DREDnot is a class guy (and or has a cool wife). He brings his wheels into living room to take pictures. I don't think my wife would let me bring my wheels inside :)

It's all part of the Jeep brotherhood...otherwise...

    :uwop:

luckily, the pics made it all worthwhile.
