Anyone know the best place to buy these?.............

I am looking for some very skinny, but tall tires for my 63 cj5 4 cylinder.

The bigger the tread, the better, I dont take the jeep on the road, so the better performance in mud the better off I am. The engine doesnt have the power to turn over wide tires in the mud, thats why I need skinny ones.

I am looking for tires that are 8 inches wide or skinnier, but are also pretty tall.

    Takes a 15 inch rim.

I was thinking about the old non-directional military tires but I cant find any that fit a 15" rim and that are taller that 29 inches.

    Thanks for the help!

Of course you would say that. Your Jeep with those tires made the logo for this site at one time.
But I got to say they look really good.

I had a set of 9.00 x 16 non-direction "old school" thread military tires on a 78 CJ5 when I was a younger man. Of the (14 or so) 4x4 vehicles I have owned, that CJ5 with the tall, skinny military tires was the ONLY one that I never managed to get stuck....it just went. Pretty amazing actually. Back in those days a lift kit was a set of big a** air shocks..lol.

The fat tires look cool but the tall skinny tires work much better in the mud. The fatter a tire is, the more stuff you have to push in front of it, like pushing a wall of mud vs slicing through it. The skinny ones go straight for the harder stuff at the bottom of the rut.

If you could find some 16" rims for your Jeep, you would have more options. The 9.00 x 16's are 35"-36" tall. They are also fairly common and generally not too costly for some good used ones...BTW they are hard as a bricks and last a long time.

WARNING: the old school, non-directional military threads will scare the crap out of you on a wet asphalt road. Basically ZERO wet road capabilities, no way to stop the thing...skidddddddddddddd
