In any case, as long as I have a 72-78 engine I don't really care since other than the minor changes like bridged rockers they are about the same performance wise. I've already pretty much moved on from "restoration" to "rebuild" since there are some personal improvements that I was to do.

Hummm....i'm not sure but the change on the rocker is one of the reason about performance decrease on 304.
The other i think come with some king of anti-pollution devive. It's someking of valve that you may find on the intake just behind the carb.

I got out of the field yesterday and stayed up past midnight finishing up the frame.

I brushed the first coat of Aluminum Chassis Saver on and sprayed another coat of aluminum and then 2 coats of satin black.

It sprayed really well and you don't need much at all for a full coat. I have enough left over for the axles, all the spring hardware, and the underside of my tub. Speaking of which...

I bought this from Darren_C_Kern last week.

The engine doesn't appear to be original since the rockers are bridged (thanks for pointing that out, Johneyboy) but there is an abundance of good, useable parts on it.

The tub is infinitely better than mine, and the driver side floorboard looks original with virtually no rust

The passenger side has been patched but not to my liking so I'm going to redo that later.

As for this weekend, I'm going to finish painting the axles and suspension parts today and put them on the frame tomorrow. Feels good to finally start the assembly process.

If anybody needs any parts from my parts jeep, I know I won't be using anywhere near all of them and I'm trying to make back what I bought it for so just send me a pm or a reply to my thread here and I'll let you know if I have it/ wont be needing it. I have all the body parts as well and they all are in pretty good condition.

And I'll leave you with this: bunny with a pancake

why the fk does the bunny have a pancake??

I had actually called that guy a few times. When I finaly got a hold of him I think you had just bought it or were coming to get it that day. Looks like a nice score for $1,500.

If that's the rig from Moncure, I looked at it back in ~September. It had the cherry poppers if I recall - sounded awesome. Great guy selling it too, I agree. The tub was needing skills beyond my beginners level but I liked that V8. I'm glad to see someone restoring it and you are making lightning progress on the rig. The frame looks great and it sounds like you are all set getting the motor in shape for the next 40 years. Great job, I'm enjoying the post. It's good to see another NC rig coming back to life.

Thanks, it looks to me like you wound up with an all around better jeep judging by your build. Good luck with yours

    Pretty bummed

Just went over my schedule until I deploy next and it looks like between now and June I'll have 4 weekends total. 13 weekdays total over the course of 4 months which I'll be able to actual "come home" from work. Wife didn't take that news too well haha

Looks like probably not too much progress is going to between now and say... this time next year. I'll do what I can in the mean time.

I got the bottom end of my 304 back in, I'm doing the top end next weekend.

Both axles are painted but the threads on the top knuckle of my Dana 30 (where the spanner nut for the ball joint) are gouged too bad to thread the new spanner nut back in. I guess I'm going to have to find a 1" tap?? I've been all over the place looking for that but its obviously going to be difficult to find. I'm probably going to have to take it to a machinist.

My leaf springs are being sandblasted so I can paint them with Chassis Saver.

I ordered these things for my axles and they all look pretty badass.

Warrior Products U-bolt skid plates front and rear

Riddler diff covers front and rear. They're like 12 lbs each

Can't wait for them to be under the frame

I'm working on cleaning up the transmission and transfer case while I wait on the springs to get back from getting blasted.

I'm not sure if I really want to start putting it together yet since I only have a one-car garage and while I'm deployed I'd like for the wife to be able to use it. It would be more practical to keep it disassembled and just put the frame on its side along a wall in my shed or something.

So I guess until I get back from this upcoming deployment I'll just be cleaning everything up, ordering parts and prepping everything to eventually get put together.

I was really hoping this wouldn't happen, but what can you do

On the bright side though, I have officially spent WAY TOO MUCH F**ING MONEY to stop now so this bitch will be a Jeep so help me God haha

    Lookin good!
I never owned a 304 but have 360, 390 and 401 engines and 1971 was the last year for screw in rocker studs on them. 1070 on 390 cause that was the last year for them.
When you get the heads clean you should see a part number and the last 2 digits of the year cast in.

Yep. forgot to mention that I found the date on my engine... 79 of all years:rofl:

But with a new cam and the TBI and the new intake manifold I think I'll get the power I want out of it
