Xarmdog got me started thinking about redoing my cage , this is what I came up with ,
1st I picked up a rear cage kit from Extreme Custom Parts ,http://extremecustomparts.com/i-1706567-cj-willys-jeep-rear-roll-cage-add-on-cj5-cj7.html ( that is Xarmdog's rig in the pic's NICE!) the kit was much cheaper than I could get the 2" .120 wall tube bought AND bent around here . kit comes wild and you need to cut it to make it fit how you want it to .
I first made it out of pvc to see how it all would land and get my lenghs/cuts right with no mistakes on the real cage .this worked out well as I got all that pipe free. I thought I had to keep the same down angle as the top tube or it would look weird . I did not like it at first but it's growing on me.I used a piece of 1.75 DOM for the diag. brace to firm things up.

moved my gas can inside using my old Con fer jerry can mount and tabbed it to the down tube ,I have killed so many good cans it's not funny hanging off the back outside so this seemed like a good fix, .I might have to raise it alittle though ,it's to far into the usable space.
the spare is mounted off the back bar and has 1" tube kickers and a spid-ie gusset
went just a little overkill :) on the 1/4" thick plate with the cool speed holes over the wheelwells ,those were cut out of concrete bolt templates off a job and cover up the bent up wheelwell tops .heavy but pretty dam sturdy..... [IMG]
    no bumper no problem

used the ORW hi-lift mount kit , for the $15 bucks that was easy to weld in ,just made sure the tube hit the jack holes .
    I have enough new
soft top material to make it all the way to the back bar just need to mock that up and send that out to get sewn.
    DONE!

coming next: TRICK steel rear corners off a 7
(thanks EricM those template will make cutting MUCH easier)

One of those cages should work good for my CJ6. How was the quality of the bends and such with the cage kit?

I don't have a tube bender or plan on buying one soon so I'm thinking on the 6 point cage for my CJ6, $700 is a good deal for a DOM cage.

nice smooth bends ,no rust, and they were just a hair(1/16") out ,over bent, so it was pretty easy to build ,,,by the way my jeep is FAR from square .:)

the main hoop is in 2 pieces and the kit comes with the insert and the plates for the downtubes and 2 extra tubes for the connections which I used for the ends. for the middle bars I used the kicker bars off the old cage those were .220 wall since the spare would hang off that and it needs to take a hit.... the kit I bought was not DOM it was seamed hrew.my 1 3/4" kicker bar was DOM 'cause my wife is on that side.....
we have easy access to a bender but the dies for 2" tube were almost $300 .
ECP was the way to go.can't beat it.

Looks nice! Wouldn't mind that on my 5 at all and I like the can being behind the tire inside the tub.
