    Well

I've given up on the Dauntless 225 V6 that came with my CJ5... it appears to be un-salvagable. Needs a complete rebuild and the crankshaft isn't in very good shape and would need grinding...as one of the main bearings and one of the rod bearings where in bad shape and did damage to the crankshaft.

I began searching for a suitable replacement months ago but haven't had any luck finding a odd-fire 225 in my neck of the woods. Man ya sure have plenty in CA and CO and WA...But none in my neck of the woods (MN)

So I am expanding my search to include the 231..even or odd fire. But I am not clear which year are usable. From what I've read here, this is what I understand will work in my CJ5..

    1966–1971 Jeep Jeepster Commando
    1966–1971 CJ-5
    1966–1971 CJ-6
    1975–1976 Buick Skyhawk
    1975 Buick Apollo
    1975–1976 Buick Century
    1975–1976 Buick Regal
    1975–1976 Buick LeSabre
    1975–1976 Buick Skylark

At this point I am still not finding any of the above..But I thought I read some where that the mid 70's-86 Buick V6's will work as well. But I can't seem to find that info and was hoping someone could point me in the right direction.

    Thanks

    Mike

I will make you a screaming deal on a 231 oddfire from a '76 Buick Apollo that was pulled in favor of a v-8. It was a very good runner, the owner just wanted more power. $250 plus freight from Washington.

There was a guy on Craigslist several months back selling one local to us (MN) out of a Jeepster. It's not listed now, but I did email them and I may still have their email address if you want to take a shot in the dark and email them to see if they still have it. Let me know.

Your looking for a 231 from a REAR WHEEL DRIVE car. Don't go with the 3800's unless you find the sure fire recipe to make it work. I know some folks are working on one, but I have not seen one work for sure yet.

Yea, I think this is all you need to look for. They'll all bolt in the same otherwise. I'm running a 231 even-fire out of a late 70's Buick in mine (and love it!).

I'd love to take you up on your offer...but I am guessing the shipping would be pretty steep.

    Thanks

I do see a number of 3800's out there ...Series I and Series II...I'm assuming all 3800's are fuel injected? And I don't have the desire nor skills to deal with that mod.

    Thanks

Why give up on the Dauntless. Last summer I bought a reground crank at Napa for $160.00 and they let me keep my core which is repairable.

Just a reminder gentlemen... keep transactions in the classifieds or by PM... not in the forum threads.
    Thanks

Ya, I agree. Its not that big a deal to fix what ya got. I gotten a few lemons out of the salvage yards. I wouldnt go there unless it was for parts.
    Do what ya want though.

I just went through the rebuilding process and if you have to have the OF like I did for the flywheel, the old 225 stuff is drying up rapidly. My block was cracked, I got a 231 EF out of a 1980 Century. Used the block, the OF crank and rebuilt the whole mess. Yes it was more money than I wanted to pay but EVERTHING is more these days, and harder to find.
If you go with the later motor its probably out of an automatic, youll have to balance it with the OF flywheel. Im assuming you have a MT.
    Good luck though!!!
