    Hi
    I have a 1960 cj5 f-head 134,all stock.Has been sitting for a while;had it running a few weeks ago,trying to troubleshoot no oil pressure.
Now it turns over, but doesn't fire. I replaced the coil, and an external resistor(wired from + coil wire to resistor, resistor to + side of coil)Have coupled oil pump and dist to 5 oclock @ TDC,checked for spark through out system;have spark, but really weak.Seems to me if you have spark(to plugs) even tho weak, should fire.It does get gas through carb. I'm baffled, any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

I have experienced no firing even though I had a weak spark. Probably due to it being flooded and/or carbon, soot and wet gasoline having built up while I was trying to trouble shoot. I suppose that the weak spark was just not strong enough to overcome the added resistance of the fouled plugs. I did a few things to improve my spark. My spark is still pretty weak (orange), but she runs.

I doubt that you are going to get a quick fix but here are a few thoughts. Since you said your jeep had been sitting a while, your jeep might be having trouble priming its carburetor. After my jeep sits for a while, it has trouble re-priming the carburetor. It has a solex carburetor which also floods easy. I have to pour a little gas in the carb. If it doesn't start, then I go to starter fluid. If I stick with pouring gas in the carb, then it never starts.—won’t even hit a lick. I am guessing that it floods. I've been lucky. A shot of starter fluid and mine fires up and runs but I can't touch the gas pedal until it has warmed up a while.

If your jeep doesn't fire off a few licks with the gas down the carb or the starter fluid, then I would say you have no spark at all. You'll have to trace the spark all the way from the starter switch to the spark plug gap. You should do this anyways to try to improve the spark. Make sure you have good points and condenser. I would also check the grounds; battery to frame; engine to frame; distributor through clamp down bolt. My spark improved significantly after I sanded the gunk off the surface of the block underneath the distributor clamp.

If it will hit a few licks with starter fluid but not run, then start looking at the fuel delivery
