I am in the middle of my cj-6 build. Just finishing the roll cage, and the skelton got me thinking about making it a truck cab with a short bed , kinda cj-8 ish. There are a couple of things that I can see as problems....... rear window glass and doors. I could build a set of doors , but I was kind of thinking of canvas doors with a metal roof/cab. Does anyone offer just doors, not the whole top? Any thoughts on custom glass for a rear window?
I can see the finished product in my head............maybe.
    thanks

Dude, you are basically at 100% custom here. The 6 frames are shorter than the 8 frames. And all the parts you can buy are for newer jeeps.

Way cool idea. Just a lot of work.

You might get an older CJ6 hardtop or halfcab and adapt it but in my mind, I don't konw if you could make it look right.

I was thinking on this for my cj6 and had thought of using a top that was for sale here awhile back. It was a CJ5 Koenig Jiffy Top shown here.

It had no doors or rear door. My plan was to shorten the cab to make a supercab by taking out a section and the side window. I was going to install two small sunroofs on each side for flip out windows. The rear window was going to be a jeep windshield and sheet metal around it.

Sounds pretty Rube Goldberg but just a passing idea. Don't know if it would have worked but I did want to try the idea of a 1/2 cab with the longer bed. Would certainly be cheaper to buy a new 1/2 cab in canvas...

yes but I was going to make it a little longer by cutting down a 5 cab.

But that is the look. Very cool.

if you put a five top on it w/o mods you'll still have bed space ;)
thought long and hard about a extended half cab but went full cage for the sake of the kids

I like where ya goin. I have been toying with the idea of making a hard roof and back with a window using the West system. West is used in boat building and uses strips of western red cedar glued with a special West glue. Then both the inside and outside are coated with woven fibreglass which is 100% trasparent to show off the wood grain. Think surfboards. My very first post on this forum asks if anyone has made their own hard doors. This has sparked the idea they can be made of a nice grained timber coated with glass. Thanks for the light globe.
I can now work out how to do the doors using this system.

There used to be a dude on ebay that sold plans for a wooden top for a CJ.

But any good woodworker could make one. Never could get the money for his time but it could be done.

Thanks for the info. I have decided to do it. As stated, all custom. It should be fun.
