I have powerlocks installed in my 57 CJ5. Dana 25 up front and Dana 44 in rear. I got these because I heard they were a good choice for lockers.
    1) while driving in 2wd, the rears ar locked right? like a tight LSD or different?
    2) with the front hubs locked in, the front is locked. Again, as a tight LSD?
    3) Powerlockers use clutches, so they are not a true lock such as a detroit locker right?
    4) My original diffs were stock. Were they a LSD stock? Much improvement to be gained with the powerlocks?
    5) I was looking for a good explanation of the powerlocks but came up empty handed. Any good links for explanations?

    Thanks,
    Paul

They are a limited slip diff. Generally stock is open diffs.

ltd slip isn't a locker, a locker locks both axles shafts together. A ltd slip limits how much slipping the axles have.

I noticed much better off road performance with my powrlok in the back. However, I did lose some streetablity as a "race" has poor manners on a wet road.

The POWR-LOK is an aggressive limited slip differential. It will be working in your rear differential in both 2wd and 4wd.

yes, the front POWR-LOK will be in use when the front hubs are engaged. You'll probably notice it is harder to steer when the hubs are engaged.

Correct. It is an aggressive limited slip, not a locker. You can rearrange the clutches to make it very aggressive if you want.

Others know more than I do, but I believe they were optional equipment. I've noticed a big difference over open differentials.

I’ve got them front and rear in similar axles also and I absolutely love my Powr-Loks. Fantastic limited slip, tough as nails too.

They only operate when the wheels on the same axle are turning at different rates. Otherwise they are like an open diff.

Sorry, apologies:oops:, some times my sense of humour gets the better of me.

But with the wheels turning the same speed all lsds/lockers/spools/??? act like an open differential
