Finally found a donor vehicle I hope will work to get the 11" backing plates off. I'm hoping you guys can tell me for sure before I go sit in the mud and cold only to be dissappointed. I have a 1970 CJ5 the donor vehicle is a 1969 J Truck.

    Thanks in advance.

A '69 J-truck will work if it has Dana 44 axles front and rear. The type of axle cannot be determined from the badges. However, if it's a short-wheelbase truck (7' bed), it should have D44s front and rear.

It is possible for the truck to have a Dana 60-2 rear axle, with 12" diam brakes. This axle was used on the middle GVWR trucks, and it will have a 5-lug flanged axle. The 60-2 axle is fairly sought after IIRC, and good 12" drums are nearly impossible to find. Thus the parts might be worth saving, for other reasons.

I believe a '69 will have a tapered shaft rear axle. To get the backing plates off the rear, you'll need to remove the hub with a big puller, so be prepared.

Hmmmmm. I wouldn't think that the bed was any longer then 7ft but GREAT information. Is it safe to say that if both the front AND rear brakes measure the same 11" that they are Danna 44's? I'm just thinking that might be a way for me to double check. Also thanks for the hub puller advice I will definitely want to do some more homework with regards to tools and procedure to get them off so that I don't damage or waste my time and other advice will go a long way.

Yeah, all the low GVWR ("1/2 ton") J-trucks got D44s F/R with 11"x2" Bendix brakes, same as the Wagoneer. There were some short wheelbase 3/4 ton J-trucks (J20s, maybe earlier), but the book says those were export only. Measure the drums and you should be fine.

Sorry one last question is their anything besides that large hub puller and some general sockets and wrenches that I will need to pull them off?

A Big hammer to beat on the hub puller center bolt. And when that fails use heat then the Big hammer

You'll need the special socket to remove the front hub. A chisel works if you don't mind damaging the nuts. Snap ring pliers if the snap rings are on the axles. Basically the same tools you need to repack the front wheel bearings.
