Corveeper would you have a few photos of your engine lay out you could post? The Mallory smal cap with remote coil sounds interesting.

Thanks for the great ideas gentalmen. I thought of these options but never knew how to achieve them.
Corveeper, my 385 started out as a 350 punched .40 over with a 400 crank. Thanks for the good links, I will defently start looking at going this direction. Yes I through the old tub on yesterday. With some help of a BFH i was able to make enough room for the HEI distubutor to fit nicely.

Sure, I’ll be working on it this weekend pulling the grill and radiator so I’ll take some pictures to post later on.

    R) The good thing about the BFH is it’s a great stress reliever also.

OK guys, sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you but I've been dealing with a sick little boy the last few days.
Anyway, here are the pictures I promised.
First the ignition system. It's a Mallory mechanical advance, magnetic trigger distributor with a Mallory ProMaster coil:

And a Mallory Hyfire IVa CDI box.

The alternator mount is the combination of the three parts I posted earlier.
The arm that comes up from the water pump to hold the top of the alternator had to be extended to clear the tall valve covers required to clear the roller rockers.

This is a pretty simple and cheap setup, the parts are hanging on the wall at your local O'Riellys, but the one thing I don't like about it is the base mount bracket goes over the #1 exhaust tube. With stock manifolds this might be all right but for headers that are notorious for shaking header bolts loose it's a pain because you just can't get these two header bolts as tight as the rest of them and this is where the first exhaust leak will pop up.

Thanks, he's doing much better now.
"Camel Humps" were stock to Corvette 327's, and I believe 283's.
Mine are stock-ish. They've got a little work done to them (screw in rocker studs, springs to handle the cam and a mild port match), but they're still the small valve (1.94/1.50) heads.

Depending on what you decide on the stock set up you have in the post will not be adequate. I have a '64 with 231 v6, I have 10" front drums and 9" on rear and a dual master cylinder (for safety over the single circuit M/C). My Jeep does not stop very well. Yes it stops, but with excessive pedal input. Off road I only have issues on steep inclines while backing. As it stands I have to down shift to aid the stopping power. I will be putting disk brakes all the way around soon. hanging pedals offer configuration options but as you know the engine compartment is tight and any change in set up affects many other things that you have to deal with. The weight and speed your Jeep will benefit from a disc brake conversion. Search for disc brake conversion and you will find all the info you will need to do the swap. What's good about it are the parts are attained over the counter at your local flaps or from a wrecking yard.

11" drum brakes at all 4 corners are an effective alternative too, if you're comfortable working on drum brakes. Drilling the 11" drums enhances the braking power dry and wet. The dual-circuit MC is a good idea no matter which type of brakes you choose.

With that much engine and an auto tranny you are going to have to stand on the brake pedal with both feet to stop it in low range. If you aren't (or even if you are) going to disc brakes, you will definitely need power assist. Nice work, by the way.
