I'm in the process of putting a old BOP TH400 and 1984 model 231 in my '67 Commando. The TH400 and Dana 20 are out of my '68 partster, it had a even fire 231 in it, but the 400 and 20 look stock. I had the 400 rebuilt and the Dana 20 checked out and then resealed. Installed the 400 and 20 last week, moved the cross member back about 10" to the factory holes in the frame with a new support.
Yesterday bolted the engine mounts on the engine and set it in the frame mounts. Now it looks like the engine is 3" to far forward or the tranny is set 3" to far back.??????(Anyway it's 3" off).
I thought this would be a direct swap, does anyone know of something I've missed?
Let me add that the engine I took out was a Buick 340 and it does not look like the engine frame mounts have ever been moved, the radiator was moved forward as far as possible, I see that as normal for a V8. The rear drive shaft seems to be right but the front seems to be to long, but body is setting up in the air on jack stands.
Any help will be much appreciated. Thanx

Just noticed your post over at the JCCA too. Could you post up some pictures, especially where the the engine mounts are on the frame? Could be they were moved to install the 340 although they shouldn't have had to move them. I'm running a 350 Buick in my snowplow Jeepsters with the frame mounts in the stock location. I think I have some pictures somewhere too of the V6/400 mounted in a frame too. 231's are a direct drop in for the 225.

Never mind I found out what the problem is from Novak. In 1984 Buick made some 231s that were front wheel drive engines, according to Novak the engine mounts are not located in the same place as a 231 rear wheel drive.
    Lesson learned, the hard way.

    Quote from NOVAK:

"The Front-Wheel-Drive 3.8L GM made a variation of the conventional RWD 3.8L for front-wheel-drive cars from 1984 through 1988. These versions have the engine mounts in different locations and are not easily used for conversion engines into Jeeps."
