I'm running a D44 front end, basically same brake stuff as an later CJ (D30). But my 15" wheels don't clear the brakes, same on the rear discs, but those are Chevy S10 calipers. And no sense in asking to guesses on the rear brakes.

Will factory EJC5 16" rims clear the front brakes, assuming that the brakes are dimensionally the same at the later CJ's D30 stuff?
I realize the 16" wheels are narrow as compared to aftermarket wheels, but I'd run a set of narrow 33x9.50's instead of the wider 12.50s'.

I really want to run early CJ Jeep rims, I'm not all that keen on running aftermarket rims. I have a pair of later CJ factory wagon wheels, but I don't want to run them either.

There is no reason for your wheels not to work. What is missing out of this story? What offset are you running?

ECJ5 wheels absolutely will not clear the disc calipers. If you are set on running OEM-style wheels you have a few options, such as finding a set from a '77 or later CJ, some wheels from a late '70s Ford F150, or possibly a '70s-'80s Dodge 1/2ton truck. The biggest issue you will find with non-Jeep wheels is that the center hole usually isn't big enough to clear the Jeep hubs. A last resort would be to call up Stockton Wheel and order up a set of custom OEM-type rims with the correct center section to clear the discs, but this is a rather pricey way to go.

BTW- it isn't the diameter of the rim that is the issue, it is the shape of the center section of the wheel that causes interference issues.

Yep, like Steve said they won't work. Plenty of us have tried it, you'd think that 16 inch wheels would do the trick but no go.

I found the pics from my original escapade with this same situation.

Here is a pic of the highly sought-after 15x8" KH Ren I rims:

And here is a pic of the '77-up CJ disc brake rim:

If you look closely at the circled areas you will see where the interference issue lies.

why wouldn't the stock steel wheels from a scout 2 work? i think they are 6 " or 7" wide & they had dana 30s w/ disc brakes in them. they are also the same lug pattern. don't know about them fitting on the rear with hybrid s-10 stuff, but seems they would work great on the front. something to think about.

Those might work, I've never tried them. Here in the rustbelt however the Scouts are made of unobtainium.

GM tracker rims might work if you dont mind 5.5" width, the indicated in red back flat part is 2". My rims are around 11" drums.
